The Shadow Before the Ring
Chapter 6 - The Digital Collapse
The courtroom gallery was packed with reporters and legal observers by Thursday morning when the prosecution introduced Vincent Moretti’s digital evidence payload.
The drive contained unedited email chains between Julian Hale and Meredith, detailing the exact timeline for infiltrating Ethan’s household, isolating Lily, and securing emergency guardianship.
“Ensure the child is kept off-balance,” one email from Julian read. “Once Ethan signs the secondary trust amendment, we control the entire northern portfolio.”
Meredith’s composure finally cracked as the emails were displayed on the courtroom monitors.
She turned her head toward the gallery, her eyes locking onto Ethan with a sudden, venomous flash of hatred.
“You ruined everything!” she shouted, lunging forward before court officers restrained her. “You were supposed to be easy!”
Judge Henderson banged his gavel twice, the heavy wood echoing through the silent room.
“Order in the court. Ms. Hale, another outburst and you will be removed for the remainder of these proceedings.”
Meredith sank back into her chair, her hands trembling as her lead attorney hastily whispered advice into her ear.
Ethan didn't flinch.
He simply stood beside his legal counsel, watching the woman who had tried to steal his family unravel under the weight of her own documented arrogance.
