Chapter 3 - The Hidden Vault
The rain lashed against the precinct windows as Hannah arrived, breathless and wide-eyed, holding a heavy cardboard box she had retrieved from Ethan’s attic.
“You said she spent hours in your home office when you were at the firm,” Hannah said, setting the box down on Cole’s desk. “I checked behind the false panel in the lower filing cabinet where you kept your tax returns.”

Target: Ethan Miller. Assets: Moderate tech startup equity, unencumbered family trust. Vulnerability: Emotionally distant after wife's passing. Desperate for maternal figure for daughter. Timeline: Eighteen months to permanent legal placement.
“She mapped out my grief like a business acquisition,” Ethan muttered, his stomach turning.
He turned to the final entry, dated just three days before their wedding.

“She knew about the cameras,” Ethan said, looking up at Detective Cole. “And she left them active anyway because she thought she was smarter than the system.”
