The Commander’s Final Briefing
Chapter 5 - The Clearing of the Estate
The movers didn't wait for Brianna’s permission.
Within minutes, they were frantically hauling the newly unloaded furniture right back onto the trucks, cursing under their breath as they tossed plastic bins and suitcases haphazardly onto the lawn.
Cole tried to argue with the federal officers, but a single cold glance from the senior agent sent him scurrying back toward his car like a scolded dog.
My father sat frozen in his lawn chair, staring blankly at the driveway as his grand plan crumbled into absolute humiliation before the eyes of the neighborhood.
By the time the two hours expired, the moving trucks were packed and rolling backward down the drive, tires churning up the gravel in their haste to escape federal jurisdiction.
Brianna’s family car sat idling by the gate, packed to the roof with boxes, while my father stood hunched over on the sidewalk, looking ten years older than he had that morning.
The estate was quiet once more.
The golden sunlight filtered through the oak trees, casting long shadows across the manicured lawn where my father had arrogantly claimed victory just hours before.
