The Commander’s Final Briefing
Chapter 2 - The Logistics of Repossession
Three days later, the moving vans rolled up the private driveway of the Briarwood estate, carrying four truckloads of oversized furniture, plastic bins, and discarded toys belonging to Brianna’s family.
Brianna stood on the front porch with a clipboard, directing the bewildered movers like a general surveying her newly acquired territory.
“No, put the sectional in the main parlor!” Brianna called out sharply, her voice carrying across the lawn. “And clear out all those old books in the library—we’re putting a big-screen TV in there!”
My father sat in a lawn chair under the oak trees, sipping iced tea and watching the chaos with a look of supreme self-satisfgence.
As the first large sofa was hoisted toward the double doors, a sleek black sedan pulled silently to a halt right behind the moving trucks, blocking the driveway entirely.
Two men in sharp charcoal suits stepped out of the vehicle, carrying heavy leather briefcases and sporting official government identification badges.
Brianna frowned, marching down the front steps to intercept them.
“Excuse me, you can't park there!” Brianna snapped. “We are trying to move in, and you're blocking the access road!”
The lead man, a senior officer from the Department of Defense Property Management Division, didn't even look at her.
He walked straight past Brianna toward my father, pulling a formal legal notice from his folder.
