The Commander’s Final Briefing
Chapter 3 - The Federal Notice
“Mr. Whitaker?” the officer asked, his voice crisp and official.
My father blinked, lowering his iced tea. “Yes? Who are you?”
“Commander Elena Whitaker registered this property under a classified military housing requisition contract three months ago,” the officer announced, his words ringing clear across the driveway. “Under Section 412 of the National Defense Facilities Act, any primary residence designated for active-duty command personnel during a state of operational readiness is federally protected from civilian habitation, unauthorized transfer, and civil seizure.”
Brianna’s jaw dropped. “What are you talking about? This is private property! Our father gave it to us!”
“Your father transferred a title to a property that was already under federal covenant,” the officer replied smoothly, handing a thick sheaf of stamped documents to my stunned father. “Which means your occupancy is classified as an illegal trespass on federal staging grounds.”
Cole ran out from the house, his face flushed with panic. “Are you out of your minds? We have a signed family agreement!”
“Family agreements do not supersede federal eminent domain and active military security covenants,” the officer stated without missing a beat. “You have exactly two hours to vacate the premises and remove all personal belongings before military police arrive to impound the unauthorized vehicles.”
The silence that followed was absolute, save for the hum of the moving truck’s idling engine.
