The Architecture of Redemption
Chapter 7 - The Quiet Harbor
The living room of Mara’s suburban home was warm, smelling faintly of vanilla and fresh cedarwood from the newly assembled nursery in the adjoining room.
Mara kicked off her heels, dropping her keys onto the entryway table before sinking deeply into the soft velvet armchair by the window.
She placed both hands on her swollen abdomen, closing her eyes as she felt the familiar, rhythmic kicks of her son reassuring her that everything was going to be all right.
Her phone chimed on the side table—a secure notification from Marcus Vance confirming that Evan Mercer’s bail had been denied due to flight risk and asset forfeiture proceedings.
She silenced the screen, turning her attention instead to the soft moonlight streaming through the windowpane.
For the first time in her adult life, there were no schedules to clear, no excuses to invent, and no apologies to offer.
The foundation was safe, the truth was public, and her world belonged entirely to her and her child.
