My Ex-Husband Sued To Seize My $15M Trust—Until Page 88 Proved He Was Never Legally Married To Me!
Chapter 4 - The Voided Registry
I tapped the screen of the tablet twice, pulling up a brand-new digital record from the Manhattan County Clerk’s archive.
"When you initiated this frivolous trust litigation, Julian," I said, standing up to my full height, "my forensic legal team conducted a forensic audit of every single document you ever signed. Not just your business filings. Not just your tax returns."
I turned the tablet directly toward Julian’s sweating face.
On the screen was a scanned marriage application from New York County, dated four years ago.
"Look at box fourteen, Julian," I said. "Marital status prior to union."
Julian’s eyes dilated into two black pools of pure terror.
"You checked 'Single / Never Married,'" I continued, my voice echoing off the limestone facade like a gunshot. "You signed it under penalty of perjury."
"I was single!" Julian yelled, his voice cracking into a high-pitched panic. "What the hell does this have to do with anything?!"
"Turn to page eighty-eight of the probate dossier," I instructed Marcus.
Marcus swept his finger across the screen.
A certified marriage certificate from Clark County, Nevada, flickered to life.
Dated six years prior to our wedding.
Names on the certificate: Julian Thomas Vance and Chloe Elizabeth Davis.
Arthur Sterling gasped, dropping his burgundy leather briefcase onto the flagstones. It burst open, scattering legal briefs across the wet lawn.
"Chloe?" Julian croaked, his knees visibly trembling. "That was... that was an annulled weekend in Vegas! It was a drunken dare!"
"You never filed the annulment decree, Julian," I said, watching him disintegrate in real time. "We pulled the family court records from Las Vegas yesterday at noon. The marriage was never legally dissolved."
Sterling grabbed his own forehead, stumbling back toward the Lincoln.
"Good God," Sterling groaned in horror. "Bigamy."
"Under state law," I stated, looking down at Julian with clinical disgust, "a marriage entered into while an existing legal union remains valid is void ab initio. It does not exist. It never existed. There is no marital domicile. There is no prenuptial agreement to dispute. And you have zero standing as an interested party to contest the Montgomery Trust."
Julian lunged forward, his face contorted in psychotic rage.
"You can't do this to me, Claire! I lived in this house for three years! You gave me your word!"
Marcus stepped forward with devastating speed, grabbing Julian’s wrist and driving him down onto one knee against the stone terrace with effortless precision.
"Release him, Marcus," I said calmly.
Marcus released his grip, stepping back as Julian collapsed onto his hands and knees on the wet pavers.
Down at the main entrance gates, three high-pitched security sirens wailed simultaneously.
