My Ex-Husband Sued To Seize My $15M Trust—Until Page 88 Proved He Was Never Legally Married To Me!
Chapter 1 - The Ambush On The Terrace
The porcelain coffee cup was still warm in my fingers when heavy gravel crunched beneath accelerating tires.
I set the cup down beside my tablet on the outdoor cedar table.
Through the boxwood hedges lining the main drive, a midnight-blue Lincoln Navigator cut straight across the delivery lane, ignoring the digital guest intercom completely.
The vehicle braked hard against the limestone retaining wall.
Out stepped Julian, wearing a freshly pressed charcoal suit that still carried the stiff tags of a rental agency.
Beside him emerged a portly man in a pinstripe three-piece suit clutching a burgundy leather briefcase: Arthur Sterling, the most predatory trust litigator in the tri-state area.
"Morning, Claire," Julian called out, adjusting his silk tie with an arrogant flick of his wrist. "Did you really think a rubber-stamped county decree was the end of the conversation?"
Marcus appeared instantly from the perimeter garden path, his hand resting flat against his earpiece, positioning his frame between Julian and the terrace steps.
"Mr. Vance, your vehicle is trespassing on private property," Marcus said, his baritone level and menacing. "Turn around and exit through the lower gate."
Julian didn't look at Marcus; he sneered directly at me.
"Tell your hired muscle to stand down, Claire," Julian said, taking two deliberate steps forward onto the flagstones. "Mr. Sterling has an emergency interlocutory injunction issued by the Appellate Division at eight-fifteen this morning."
Sterling unlatched his briefcase with a sharp, dual metallic snap.
"Ms. Montgomery," the attorney announced, pulling out a thick, legal-size packet bound with red ribbon. "We have initiated a formal collateral attack against the dissolution settlement and the Montgomery Master Living Trust."
"The dissolution was entered with prejudice, Mr. Sterling," I replied, not moving from my chair. "Julian surrendered all equitable claims in exchange for a deferred prosecution agreement."
"That agreement was signed under structural coercion and fatal non-disclosure," Sterling countered, his voice booming across the quiet lawn. "We've uncovered evidence that your late father didn't fund this trust with private family cash. He capitalized it using commercial assets transferred from a defunct partnership with Julian’s grandfather."
Julian took another step up the stairs, pulling an old, sepia-toned corporate charter from his breast pocket.
"You don't own this dirt, Claire," Julian whispered, his teeth flashing in a malicious grin. "My grandfather held forty-nine percent of the founding shares before your father buried the paper trail."
Before Sterling could hand the injunction to Marcus, my phone vibrated violently against the cedar wood with an urgent call from the Chief Clerk of the Probate Court.
