My Cheating Husband Smirked Behind His Prenup—Until Page 47 Stripped His Entire Empire At Dawn!
Chapter 1 - The Midnight Call
The heavy mahogany desk trembled under the vibration of Carter’s phone.
CFO MARCUS DANIELS - URGENT continued to pulse across the glass screen in glaring white letters.
Carter’s hand hovered above the device, his knuckles blanching as his eyes darted from the caller ID back to the crisp black lines of the fresh Chancery filing.
"Answer it, Carter," I said, leaning back into the leather armchair and adjusting the gold nib of my pen.
He ignored me, his thumb stabbing down hard on the red decline icon.
"You're running a bluff," he rasped, his voice dropping into a harsh, hollow rasp. "Marcus is probably calling about the quarterly tax roll-over. He doesn't know anything about our marriage."
"Marcus isn't calling about taxes," I replied, crossing my legs with unhurried composure.
Carter lunged forward, slamming both palms down onto the edge of the desk.
"You think you can walk into my study at midnight with some manufactured clerical rider and intimidate me? I built Vance Capital from the ground up!"
"My father's family trust provided ninety percent of the initial liquidity, Carter," I countered, keeping my tone ice-cold. "You provided a business card and a smile."
"That prenup was drafted by Sterling & Sterling!" he snarled, veins pulsing along the side of his neck. "The top corporate litigation team in Manhattan! You think three junior partners missed a voting-rights takeover?"
"They didn't miss it. They didn't even look."
I tapped the embossed notary seal on page forty-seven with the tip of my pen.
"You told them I was simply adding the standard domestic liability shield so your personal assets were protected from tenant slip-and-falls. They rubber-stamped it because you told them your wife was handling the estate filings."
Carter’s jaw twitched violently.
His phone buzzed again, skittering an inch across the polished walnut.
This time, it wasn't a call.
It was an automated security push notification from the master banking portal at JPMorgan Chase:
ALERT: CORPORATE ACCOUNT ACCESS SUSPENDED DUE TO EMERGENCY JUDICIAL INJUNCTION.
Carter stared at the glowing prompt, the blood draining from his face until his skin looked like wet paper.
He reached out a trembling hand to unlock his mobile banking dashboard.
Before his thumb could hit the biometric sensor, the sharp, distinctive chime of our private driveway gate intercom echoed through the ceiling speakers.
