The Snobbish Dealer Locked My Engine Line—Until My Forensic Audit Repossessed His Entire Dealership Network At Dawn!
Chapter 4 - The Tarmac Lockdown
A mechanical automated voice cut through the hangar: "Alert. Airspace exclusion zone active over Wayne County Industrial Corridor. All chartered logistics flights grounded by order of Federal Aviation Administration."
Julian’s phone slipped from his fingers, hitting the floor and sliding across the oil-streaked concrete.
"The planes," Julian whispered, his face losing its golden tan. "The cargo carriers just got grounded on the tarmac."
"Those three Antonovs outside aren't taking off, Julian," I said, pointing toward the open hangar doors where flashing blue lights were reflecting off the low autumn clouds. "And neither are you."
Marcus lunged toward me, raising his gold-headed cane like a club.
"You destroyed my boy’s life!" Marcus roared, his face mottled with purple rage. "I’ll make sure you never cast another engine block in this country!"
Before the cane could fall, the federal marshal on Miller’s left stepped inside the arc of the swing, catching the polished mahogany shaft mid-air with an iron grip.
With a single fluid twist, the marshal disarmed Marcus, driving the older man down onto one knee against the rubber dyno mat.
"Hands behind your back, Mr. Vance," the marshal commanded, clicking the heavy steel cuffs around Marcus’s wrists.
"Julian! Do something!" Marcus gasped, his cheek pressed against the diamond plate of the dyno floor. "Call the firm! Use the emergency retainer!"
Julian didn't move. He stood paralyzed, his eyes darting frantically toward the hangar's open bay doors.
"I can't, Marcus," Julian choked out, his voice thin and hollow. "The firm’s compliance director just sent a blast email. Sterling Capital’s board voted ten minutes ago to terminate our partnership with Vance Holdings."
"They what?!" Marcus croaked, struggling against the cuffs.
"They severed the contracts," Julian said, his voice breaking into a dry whimper. "To protect our fund from federal asset forfeiture. We're out, Marcus. We're completely out."
Two more federal marshals stepped up behind Julian, their badges gleaming under the industrial floodlights.
"Julian Sterling?" the agent asked. "You're detained as a material witness in an ongoing international export fraud investigation. Step toward the vehicle."
Julian didn't argue. He raised his hands, completely submissive, and allowed the agents to lead him out into the cold night rain.
As the squad cars pulled away down the gravel drive, Inspector Miller tucked the red evidence pouch into his leather briefcase.
"Good work on the telemetry telemetry data, Zachary," Miller said, shaking my grease-stained hand. "We have enough to seize the entire Vance network."
Then, my Toughbook emitted a sharp, high-pitched emergency warble.
