The Snobbish Dealer Locked My Engine Line—Until My Forensic Audit Repossessed His Entire Dealership Network At Dawn!
Chapter 2 - The Landlord’s Bluff
Julian Sterling took a slow pace around the front quarter panel of the carbon-chassis test car.
"You think you're clever because you design crankshafts, Drake?" Julian asked, tapping his shoe against the bare magnesium wheel rim. "You build toys. We build capital. My lawyers filed thirty-two separate patent infringement injunctions against Vanguard forty minutes ago."
"Under what patent, Julian?" I asked, looking up from my tablet.
"The thermal dissipation matrix for the secondary intercooler," Marcus Vance interjected, pulling a certified document from his coat pocket. "Registered under Vance Automotive IP in 2018. It turns out your precious V12 uses our licensed airflow routing."
My lead telemetry engineer, Sarah, stepped forward with a clipboard, her face tight with anger. "That patent was invalidated three years ago by the federal patent office!"
"It was appealed," Marcus countered smoothly, waving a dismissive hand. "And until the appellate review concludes, this entire facility is subject to an immediate federal preservation order."
One of the security guards stepped toward the primary dyno control terminal, pulling a pair of heavy wire cutters from his utility belt.
"Don't touch that harness," I warned, my voice flat.
"Or what?" the guard mocked, reaching for the primary telemetry loom. "You going to throw a wrench at me?"
"Step away from the console, son," a low, gravelly voice echoed from the shadowed corridor behind the engine bay.
Chief Inspector Miller stepped out from the tool room, dressed in an FBI windbreaker, flanked by two armed federal marshals.
Marcus didn't flinch; he simply smiled with cold, aristocratic detachment.
"Inspector Miller," Marcus said, raising his cane in a polite salute. "Good to see you. I assume you're here to enforce the landlord lien issued by the county clerk?"
Miller pulled a fresh, unsealed envelope from his breast pocket.
"Not quite, Mr. Vance," Miller replied. "I'm here to serve an emergency federal search warrant issued by the Department of Justice’s National Security Division."
Marcus’s smile froze around the edges.
"National Security? This is a private commercial contract dispute between suppliers."
"It was a commercial dispute," Miller said, stepping between the guard and the dyno console. "Until we traced the source code of the ECU override Carter Vance was flashing onto your showroom vehicles."
