The Quiet Ledger
Chapter 6 - The Sister’s Betrayal
Before Graham could scramble to his feet, a taxi pulled up behind the town car, and the door flew open.
Natalie spilled out onto the gravel driveway, carrying two overflowing plastic garbage bags, her hair messy and her face stained with frantic tears.
""Lydia! Thank God!"" Natalie cried, stumbling across the lawn toward her sister. ""The landlord locked me out of my apartment! They said my lease was terminated, my credit cards were declined, and my bank accounts were frozen by the federal fraud division! Please tell me this is a joke—please tell me you can help me!""
Lydia looked down at her sister, her expression remaining chillingly neutral.

My forensic accountant traced the serial numbers to an embezzled vendor invoice from last November. The police are already waiting at your apartment to take your statement.""
Natalie stopped dead in her tracks, staring at Lydia as if she were looking at a ghost.
""You... you knew?"" Natalie whispered, her voice trembling.
""I always know,"" Lydia said simply. ""I just chose to stay quiet while you all built a stage big enough to hang yourselves on.""
