The Marine's Retribution
Chapter 5 - The Collapse of an Empire
Panic swept through the executive suite like a wildfire. Within twenty minutes of the federal raid, the New York Stock Exchange halted trading on Whitmore Global shares as automated algorithmic monitors detected massive insider sell-offs triggered by the asset freeze. Patricia Whitmore rushed into the downtown office suite just as federal agents were loading boxes of hard drives and financial ledgers into secure transport cases. “What is the meaning of this? Do you know who my family is?” Patricia shrieked at the nearest agent, her designer suit looking rumpled and absurd in the chaos.
Grant was cornered near the panoramic windows, his phone buzzing incessantly with emergency calls from terrified creditors, panicked board members, and criminal defense attorneys demanding retainer fees he could no longer access. He looked across the room and saw Colonel Hart standing calmly by the doorway, watching the destruction of the Whitmore dynasty with cold, impassioned precision. “Where is she?” Grant whispered hoarsely, pushing past a federal agent as he stumbled toward his father-in-law. “Where is Eleanor? We can settle this! We can work out a settlement!”
Daniel didn't even flinch as Grant lunged toward him. Two federal marshals stepped between them instantly, pinning Grant’s arms behind his back with plastic zip-ties before forcing him down into a leather visitor’s chair. “She’s at home, resting comfortably in the house her mother built,” Daniel said quietly, looking down at the broken billionaire with utter disdain. “She doesn't want your settlement, Grant. She wants your legacy. Every asset, every shell company, and every square foot of land you stole is now forfeit under federal racketeering laws.”
