The Marine's Retribution
Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Ambush
At exactly 9:02 AM, the double glass doors of Whitmore Global Industries' executive boardroom swung open with a sharp crash. Grant Whitmore sat at the head of the mahogany table, leading a quarterly strategy conference with his board of directors, looking relaxed and smug in his custom Brioni suit. “As I was saying, gentlemen, the expansion into the marshland sector will proceed regardless of minor regulatory hurdles—” Grant began, before stopping short as two federal marshals in dark tactical vests flanked the doorway. Behind them strode Colonel Daniel Hart, wearing his dress uniform with polished brass buttons gleaming in the fluorescent light, followed closely by a federal prosecutor carrying a heavy leather briefcase.
“Grant Whitmore,” the lead prosecutor announced, his voice echoing off the glass walls. “You are being served with a federal injunction for corporate fraud, environmental endangerment, tax evasion, and racketeering.” Color drained entirely from Grant’s face, his expensive posture collapsing as he stood up so fast his leather chair tipped backward onto the carpet. “This is insane! You can't do this! I want my attorneys!” Grant stammered, his hands shaking as he looked around the room at his terrified board members. “On whose authority is this happening?”
Colonel Daniel Hart stepped forward, his boots clicking rhythmically against the marble floor until he stood directly across the table from his son-in-law. “On the authority of the United States government, and on behalf of my daughter, Eleanor Whitmore,” Daniel said, his voice ringing with absolute, unshakeable authority. He reached into his coat pocket and tossed a thick legal portfolio onto the mahogany table right in front of Grant’s trembling hands. “You beat a pregnant woman ninety-nine times and threw her out with nothing, Grant. You forgot one simple rule of engagement: never back a Marine’s family into a corner.”
