The Marine's Retribution
Chapter 3 - The Gathering Storm
Within forty-eight hours, the quiet sanctuary of Daniel’s home transformed into an operational command center. Word of Eleanor’s expulsion had not yet leaked to the financial press, but Grant Whitmore was already celebrating his supposed victory in his penthouse office, completely unaware that his corporate bank accounts were being audited by federal investigators. Patricia Whitmore had spent the morning calling high-society divorce attorneys, attempting to preemptively freeze any claims Eleanor might make against the Whitmore trust. They believed they held all the cards, protected by a fortress of generational wealth and bribed municipal judges.
They didn't account for Colonel Daniel Hart’s network. Veterans whom Eleanor had assisted over the years at the VA rehabilitation hospital—men and women who now worked in cybersecurity, maritime freight, and federal compliance—swarmed the digital and physical flanks of the Whitmore empire. A trusted contact at the South Carolina Department of Transportation flagged every fraudulent land title Grant had forged. Meanwhile, Eleanor sat at her mother’s old oak desk, systematically organizing the medical reports documenting ninety-nine instances of physical intimidation and abuse, each one stamped with timestamps and audio transcripts from the master bedroom.
“They’re filing for an emergency asset freeze at 9:00 AM tomorrow,” Daniel announced, walking into the kitchen with a mug of black coffee and setting a printed manifest on the table. “General Vance’s team has already secured federal warrants for the downtown corporate headquarters and the Charleston shipping terminals.” Eleanor looked down at the manifest, touching her swollen stomach with quiet resolve. “Grant always said I was nothing without his money,” she murmured, her eyes flashing with cold steel. “Tomorrow, we’ll see what he is without his empire.”
