The Whitaker Orchard Legacy
Chapter 6 - The Injunction
Marcus walked up the farmhouse steps with absolute, unbothered authority, his polished shoes clicking sharply against the wooden floorboards.
""Mrs. Whitaker,"" Marcus said politely, nodding in my direction before turning his gaze directly toward Brooke and Daniel.
""Who are you? What is the meaning of this interruption?"" the real estate developer standing near the front door demanded, stepping forward with his briefcase. ""We have a multi-million-dollar closing scheduled for Monday morning!""
""You have a multi-million-dollar fraud scheduled for federal investigation,"" Marcus corrected smoothly, pulling a crisp legal document from his briefcase. ""My firm represents Charlotte Whitaker, sole trustee and primary beneficiary of the Whitaker Family Land Trust.""
Daniel’s jaw dropped.
""That's impossible,"" Daniel stammered, looking frantically between Marcus and me. ""Dad said the farm was part of the operating company assets! We own eighty percent of the equity!""
""Your father operated the business, Daniel,"" I said, stepping up onto the porch and looking him squarely in the eye. ""He never owned the land. And he certainly never gave you permission to sell our family's legacy to pay off your wife's high-society debts.""
Marcus handed a thick packet of certified injunction orders to the developer and Brooke.
""Furthermore,"" Marcus continued, his voice ringing across the quiet porch, ""every single wire transfer executed from Mrs. Whitaker's personal retirement accounts into your commercial development fund over the past eighteen months has been classified as corporate embezzlement and financial elder abuse.""
Brooke stumbled backward, grabbing the porch railing to steady herself as the prospective investors hastily set down their champagne flutes and hurried toward their cars.
