The Wedding Cake That Went to the Wrong House
Chapter 3 - One smaller cake
The wedding coordinator thanked them and offered leftover sandwiches. They ate behind the kitchen while the guests cheered in the next room.
Daniel asked whether Bea still wanted to travel. She said yes, though the bakery made long trips difficult. He told her about the bicycle shop he hoped to open. Their lives had changed without becoming strangers' lives.
He asked for coffee on Sunday. Bea accepted and gave him her current number rather than trusting someone else to pass it along.
On Sunday she brought a small cake, one tier and no elaborate decorations. Daniel laughed at the box. "Are you certain about the address?"
She checked the door number, then his name written beside the bell.
Their coffee did not resolve ten years in an afternoon. But when Bea mentioned a training course abroad, Daniel asked when she would go and how she felt about it. She answered directly. This time, nobody else would be translating their plans.
