The Wedding Cake That Went to the Wrong House
Chapter 1 - Number fourteen
Bea delivered a three-tier cake to number fourteen and found a man fixing a bicycle on the porch. He signed before either noticed the mistake. The wedding was at number forty-one, across town.
When she returned, the man had already cleared the refrigerator to keep the cake cool. He was Daniel, her childhood friend, whom she had not seen since an argument after graduation.
There was no time for embarrassment. The wedding began in an hour, and Bea's van refused to start. Daniel borrowed his neighbor's estate car. They secured the cake between them and drove slowly enough to irritate every driver behind them.
