The Arrogant VP Spilled Wine On My Boots And Threw A $20 Bill—Until My Midnight Injunction Evicted His Flagship Tower!
Chapter 4 - The Midnight Transfer
Donald didn't pull the phone out; the screen was glowing so brightly through his coat pocket that the red light pulsed through the camel-hair wool.
"Answer it, Donald," I commanded, stepping past Frank.
With fingers that shook like dry leaves, Donald reached into his pocket and retrieved the heavy, military-grade handheld unit.
The caller ID displayed a single, encrypted alphanumeric string: NODE-01 // ZURICH ESCROW.
He tapped the speaker button with a trembling thumb.
A mechanical, synthetic voice broadcast across the empty street: "Alert. Automated liquidity sweep initiated under Emergency Codicil 7. All secondary accounts associated with the Vance Family Trust are currently being liquidated to satisfy senior secured creditor debt."
Donald’s knees buckled. He sank onto the cold stone curb, the bottom of his six-thousand-dollar coat trailing in the street runoff.
"No... no, no, no," Donald wept, pressing his hands against his ears. "That account has ninety million dollars in generational wealth. My father founded that trust in 1974."
"Your father founded that trust using capital stolen from the original Montgomery Mining syndicate in Nevada," I said, looking down at him. "The legal title was never cleared. My family has been tracking that debt for fifty-two years."
Donald lifted his head, his face contorted in an ugly, terrified grimace.
"Who are you?" Donald choked out. "You're not just an engineer from Zurich. Who the hell are you, Cole?"
"I'm Charles Montgomery's great-grandson," I replied, my voice steady as iron. "The man your father drove off a cliff on Highway 101 to take control of the western telegraph patents."
Marcus stepped up beside me, resting his hand firmly on the brass head of his cane.
"You stole our father's company fifty years ago, Donald," Marcus said softly. "Then you stole my life twelve years ago. And today, you tried to steal Cole’s network."
The satellite phone emitted three rapid, descending tones.
"Liquidation complete," the synthetic voice announced. "Current trust balance: zero dollars. All underlying corporate assets transferred to Montgomery Apex Holdings."
Donald dropped the phone onto the pavement. The screen shattered against the curb, its red glow dying into black glass.
Across the street, the massive digital ticker on the second-story facade of Vance Tech’s headquarters suddenly flickered.
The glowing letters spelling out VANCE TECH glitched, faded, and were replaced by a crisp, cold corporate notice:
FACILITY SEIZED UNDER COURT-APPOINTED RECEIVERSHIP. ALL OPERATIONS TEMPORARILY TRANSFERRED TO MONTGOMERY SYSTEMS.
Donald sat in the dirt, clutching his knees like a ruined child, staring up at the glass tower he had claimed as his empire.
Before he could speak another word, a heavy black sedan with diplomatic plates glided silently to the curb behind his Taycan.
