My Husband Tried Buying His Mistress A $200k Diamond Necklace—Until His Black Card Declined Three Times And My Process Server Walked In
Chapter 5 - The Grand Jury Subpoena
Julian swiped the screen, turning the tablet display directly toward Liam’s pale, sweat-streaked face.
"Grand Jury Subpoena Duces Tecum," Julian read aloud, ensuring every retail associate and police officer heard every single word. "United States District Court. Targeting Liam Vance and Chloe Davis for conspiracy to commit bank fraud and money laundering."
Chloe let out a sharp, choked shriek.
"Conspiracy?!" she cried, stumbling forward and grabbing Julian’s sleeve. "I didn't conspire with anyone! I was just his junior partner! He forced me to sign those filings!"
"Get your hands off him, Chloe!" Liam barked, shoving her backward.
"Don't touch me, you pathetic fraud!" Chloe screamed, her manicured facade shattering into raw, venomous fury. "You dragged me into this! You told me we were flying to Paris next weekend on the corporate jet!"
"Both of you, quiet!" the lead transit officer commanded, stepping firmly between them.
The sales director walked around the counter, carrying Liam's rejected Centurion card between two fingertips, holding it out like a piece of contaminated medical waste.
"Your card, Mr. Vance," the director said with frigid disdain. "And I must insist you leave our establishment before I instruct the officers to file formal trespassing charges."
Liam snatched the black titanium card, his face flushed with the darkest humiliation of his life.
He turned toward Julian, his breath coming in ragged, shallow gasps.
"You tell Vivian she won't see a single cent of the overseas accounts," Liam hissed, his voice dropping into a desperate whisper. "I moved twenty million into Singapore last night. She will never find the private keys."
Julian smiled—a cold, devastating smirk that made Liam's stomach drop into freefall.
"The Singapore accounts tied to the DBS private banking node?" Julian asked softly.
Liam froze completely.
"The ones authorized under the IP address of your suite at the Greenwich hotel?" Julian continued, tapping his tablet once more. "The Monetary Authority of Singapore froze those assets twenty minutes ago under an international mutual legal assistance treaty."
Liam’s knees visibly buckled.
He reached out a frantic hand, steadying himself against the edge of an empty display case.
Every dollar.
Every offshore shelter.
Every corporate asset he had spent five years skimming and hiding had been located, targeted, and severed from his control in less than two hours.
"Now, Mr. Vance," Julian said, pointing toward the boutique's glass doors. "Your Maybach is currently being loaded onto the flatbed. You have five minutes to collect your personal briefcase from the trunk before it's impounded at the county lot."
Liam stood there in the center of Harry Winston, surrounded by diamonds he couldn't afford, an entourage of guards watching him like an insect, and a mistress who looked at him with pure, unadulterated hatred.
He stumbled toward the revolving door, head down, shoulders hunched in total defeat.
Chloe rushed out right behind him, furiously tapping on her phone, desperately trying to find a lawyer who would take a client whose corporate guarantee had just turned to dust.
Julian watched them reach the sidewalk before lifting the phone back to his ear.
"It’s done, Vivian," Julian said quietly. "He walked out on foot."
"Thank you, Julian," I replied, leaning against my kitchen counter. "Head back to Greenwich. We have a meeting with the board at one."
"Understood," Julian said, turning toward the door.
Then, his phone chimed with an unexpected priority alert.
Julian stopped dead on the marble threshold, his eyes narrowing as he read the incoming notification from the SEC compliance division.
