The Wolf in the Gray Uniform
Chapter 7 - The Confrontation in the Study
Harper placed the printed audit trail on Dante’s desk just as the midnight clock struck twelve.
Dante looked up from a dossier, his expression hardening when he saw the cold, resolute look in her eyes.
“What is this?”
“A leak,” Harper said flatly. “Your logistics coordinator has been selling our secondary shipping routes to federal investigators in exchange for immunity on an old racketeering charge.”
Dante stood up slowly, the air in the room dropping several degrees.
“Are you certain?”
“The routing numbers match the exact pattern of the leaks that nearly compromised our Marseille operation before I intervened,” Harper said. “He’s been bleeding information for six months.”
Carmine, who had just walked into the study with a fresh drink, froze in the doorway.
“Marco? That’s impossible. He’s been with us for ten years.”
“Loyalty bought with cash expires when the federal prosecutor offers a cleaner cell,” Harper said without blinking.
Dante didn't shout.
He didn't reach for a weapon.
He simply looked at Carmine with a cold, terrifying calm.
“Bring him in,” Dante said.
