The Suitcase Full of Schoolbooks
Chapter 3 - The next lesson
A month later a postcard arrived at the office. The child had drawn his new classroom, including a window and a desk labeled with his own name. His mother wrote that he had made a friend.
Leila pinned it behind the counter, away from public view because it contained school details. She sent a short reply through the teacher, thanking him for the picture.
At the next staff meeting she proposed a clearer lost-luggage leaflet for families arriving by bus. Her manager approved a trial, with translated versions arranged through the airport's existing services.
The leaflet was plain, not a dramatic tribute to her kindness. It listed where to go, what identification helped and how to report a missing case.
Leila kept one copy at the counter. Sometimes the most useful ending to a small story was a set of instructions that made the next person's story less difficult.
