Chapter 2 - The first station
Felix replaced a loose wire and cleaned the contacts. The radio worked intermittently, enough to pick up a music station. Jo sat beside the counter as a song filled the room.
She remembered the single completed trip, a rainy afternoon at the lake. Her father apologized for the weather. She remembered only that he let her steer their rented boat.
"I have been counting what he missed," she said. "I forgot what he managed."
Felix thought of his own daughter waiting for a promised visit. He had postponed twice because the shop was busy. After Jo left, he closed the booking calendar for the following Saturday and called his daughter before he could find another reason not to.
