The Impostor Chef Claimed My Heritage Restaurant Was Bankrupt—Until My Midnight Injunction Evicted His Entire Culinary Syndicate!
Chapter 1 - The Breach at the Cellar Door
The silver platter on Charles Bennett’s table had barely caught the candlelight before the heavy brass double doors of the restaurant burst open with a violent shudder.
Three private security guards in dark suits moved down the center carpet, escorting an older, aristocratic man wrapped in an expensive wool trench coat.
It was Maximillian Vance—my estranged uncle and the managing director of Vance Continental Capital.
Behind him marched Laurent Mercier, who had returned not in chef whites, but flanked by a process server holding an embossed red folio.
"Put the silver cloches down, Julian," Maximillian commanded, his voice echoing across the silent dining room.
Charles Bennett didn't finish chewing; he lowered his fork and stared at the older man with frosty disdain.
"Maximillian," I said, setting my plating tweezers on the carving board. "You're trespassing on active kitchen premises during private dinner service."
"This is no longer your kitchen, nephew," Maximillian sneered, taking two measured steps toward Table 12. "The commercial eviction writ you served on Laurent forty minutes ago was an ultra vires act."
He tapped the table with the gold head of his walking cane.
"You control the building's operating entity, Julian," Maximillian continued smoothly. "But you forgot who holds the senior mezzanine bond on 452 Hudson Street."
Laurent stepped forward from behind his patron, a smirk returning to his lips.
"Mr. Vance’s European fund purchased your building’s underlying debt from Deutsche Bank at six o'clock tonight," Laurent mocked. "Under Section 18 of the commercial mortgage, default on culinary brand covenants triggers immediate technical foreclosure."
Maximillian signaled the lead security guard.
"Clear the dining room," Maximillian ordered. "Board of Health quarantine notice is being posted at the door as we speak."
Before the guard could take a single step toward the kitchen pass, the heavy glass wine vault behind me began to hum with a continuous, high-frequency alarm.
