The Garden Behind Apartment Nine
Chapter 2 - A place to disagree
The garden grew, and so did the arguments. One neighbor wanted flowers. Another wanted vegetables. A parent worried about children near the tools. Nora tried to decide everything herself until the man with the shovel stopped coming.
She knocked on his door. He said he had joined a garden, not volunteered for a boss.
The following weekend they held a meeting beside the crooked bench. They marked flower beds, vegetable rows and a safe place for tools. Each household took responsibility for a small section.
The woman from apartment nine finally entered through the gate. Her name was June. She had once kept a garden with her husband. After he died, she found it easier not to begin another.
