The Boy Who Repaired the Town Clock
Chapter 2 - The missing repair
The clock's gears were sound. A swollen wooden support pressed against a moving rod whenever moisture entered the tower. Eli wanted to cut it away, but Mrs. Shaw stopped him.
"Find out what it supports before you remove it."
In the archive, they found drawings of a repair made decades earlier. The wood stabilized a fractured metal bracket. Cutting it could bring part of the assembly down.
Eli sketched a replacement bracket and asked the local metalworker to check it. The man changed half his measurements, then explained why.
The council approved the repair. Eli's first real contribution was admitting what he did not know. He kept that page in his notebook, corrections and all.
