The Bus Driver’s Last Detour
Chapter 2 - What a minute can mean
The woman was now a physiotherapist at the hospital. She did not claim the bus ride changed her entire life. It simply meant that on a difficult morning, one adult had noticed she was trying.
Owen worried he had delayed the other passengers. She said the bus had reached school on time. What felt like a detour in his memory had been less than a minute.
At the terminal she gave him the flowers. He explained that he had one more circuit to complete. She arranged for a colleague to keep them in water.
Through the final circuit, Owen noticed people he usually counted as fares: a cleaner with sore hands, a student checking notes, a father balancing a folded stroller. None needed a grand gesture. They needed him to arrive safely.
