My Husband Skipped My Triplets’ Birth For A $612 Hotel Room—Until My Midnight Freeze Locked His Offshore Accounts!
Chapter 6 - The Architect in the Harbor
I picked up the phone, checking the glowing screen.
The caller ID displayed an encrypted VoIP connection originating from an unlisted terminal in Geneva, Switzerland.
I swiped the icon, bringing the receiver to my ear without speaking.
A slow, cultured baritone—deep, aristocratic, and chillingly composed—drifted through the speaker against the distant hum of private jet turbines.
"A remarkably efficient execution, Lauren," the man murmured, speaking with an icy, refined cadence.
My fingers tightened around the phone casing.
"Who is this?"
The man on the other end let out a quiet, amused chuckle that sent a cold prickle of caution down my spine.
"Diane was an arrogant fool who thought social status was a substitute for real power," the voice said smoothly. "And Evan was a spineless boy who couldn't even manage a two-bit distribution depot without getting caught with his mistress."
"Identify yourself," I commanded, my voice dropping into pure iron.
"I am Victor Mercer," the man replied, the sound of paper rustling lightly in the background. "Your late father-in-law’s older brother. The man who actually funded the master trust forty years ago."
My breath caught in my throat.
Victor Mercer had supposedly perished in an offshore yacht fire in the Mediterranean twelve years ago.
"You took back the distribution network, Lauren," Victor continued, his words slow, deliberate, and razor-sharp. "A brilliant little tactical victory. But while you were busy having your husband cuffed at the south gate... my private equity group just acquired eighty percent of the municipal hospital bonds underwriting this entire medical center."
A sudden chill swept through the room, colder than the hospital air.
"Check the nursery telemetry in thirty seconds, my dear," the voice purred through the static. "The private pediatric wing where your triplets are currently resting was transferred under my sovereign trust at noon. If you want those babies discharged under your custody... we have a very different contract to discuss."
The line clicked dead with a hollow, mechanical snap.
Across the room, the wall-mounted video monitor displaying Ada, June, and Theo's incubators suddenly flickered.
The live feed went black, replaced by a flashing yellow administrative prompt:
