My Husband Skipped My Triplets’ Birth For A $612 Hotel Room—Until My Midnight Freeze Locked His Offshore Accounts!
Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Raid
Molly picked up the receiver on the second ring, hit the speakerphone toggle, and set the handset on the rolling tray.
"Lauren?" a deep, gravelly voice resonated through the room.
It was Jonathan Hayes—my maternal uncle and the majority bondholder of the Mercer Logistics syndication.
"I'm here, Uncle Jonathan," I answered, keeping my eyes locked on Diane’s pale face.
"Our audit team just completed the forensic trace on terminal node 8," Jonathan reported, the sound of paper rustling rapidly on his desk in Midtown. "Evan didn't just wire forty-five thousand to the Caymans. He executed an unauthorized secondary lien against our regional warehouse deeds twenty-four hours ago."
Diane lunged toward the table, her hands trembling as she grabbed the landline base.
"Jonathan! This is an internal family matter! You have no standing to interfere with my son’s executive operations!"
"I have standing under Article 14 of the master credit agreement, Diane," Jonathan replied with glacial indifference. "Which explicitly states that any commingling of personal liabilities with commercial collateral triggers immediate, non-negotiable acceleration of all outstanding senior debt."
The cell phone in Diane’s purse began to vibrate violently, buzzing against the leather casing like an angry insect.
She pulled it out with shaking fingers.
The screen was flashing with three consecutive text alerts from the Mercer Logistics board of directors:
URGENT: Special meeting convened at 2:15 p.m.
EMERGENCY RESOLUTION: Evan Mercer removed from executive slate.
COMPLIANCE ALERT: All corporate signature keys revoked.
"No..." Diane whispered, her knees visibly trembling beneath her tailored wool coat. "No, this is impossible. The board meeting isn't until Thursday!"
"The board meets whenever the majority bondholder calls an extraordinary quorum, Diane," I said, sitting upright against my pillows.
Through the speakerphone on my bed, Evan began sobbing openly, his voice dissolving into high-pitched hysteria.
"Mom! What is happening?! My corporate badge just locked me out of the south gate! Security is standing by my desk with cardboard boxes!"
"Shut up, Evan!" Diane screamed into her phone, completely abandoning her polished high-society facade. "Shut your mouth!"
"He can't hear you, Diane," I said, pointing toward the open hallway.
Standing just beyond the threshold of my room were two uniformed detectives from the County Prosecutor’s Financial Crimes Bureau, accompanied by an armed hospital security lieutenant.
