My Mother-In-Law Dosed My Newborn At Her Baby Shower—Until Her Missing Ex-Husband Seized Her $50M Trust At Midnight!

Chapter 6 - The Architect on the Tarmac

I reached over and picked up the phone.

The caller ID displayed an encrypted VoIP connection originating from an unlisted terminal in Geneva, Switzerland.

Arthur’s hand instantly froze on his cane, his eyes locking onto the glowing screen.

"Nora," Arthur warned, his voice dropping into a tense, defensive register. "Put that on speaker."

I tapped the green icon and pressed the speaker toggle.

A slow, cultured baritone—deep, aristocratic, and completely devoid of human warmth—drifted through the speaker over the faint, rhythmic whine of private jet turbines.

"A rather spectacular performance in Room 14, Arthur," the man murmured, the cadence refined, smooth, and chillingly familiar.

Arthur’s knuckles went bone-white against the silver head of his cane.

"Victor," Arthur spat, his gravelly voice dropping into pure iron.

A quiet, calculating laugh echoed across the connection.

"You always were far too sentimental with family, little brother," the voice purred through the static. "Judith was an impatient fool who couldn't even manage a household poisoning without leaving a paper trail, and Ryan was an incompetent boy who thought a leased BMW was power."

"Victor Vance," Arthur said, taking a step toward the phone. "Your Cayman shell was seized three hours ago. The Dallas accounts are dead."

"The Dallas accounts were pocket change, Arthur," Victor chuckled softly, the sound of champagne pouring into crystal audible in the background. "A minor distraction to keep your forensic accountants occupied in Texas while the real transaction cleared."

My pulse hammered against my ribs as I looked at Arthur’s darkening expression.

"What transaction, Victor?" Arthur demanded.

"The master liquidation of the Caldwell-Vance Sovereign Holding Trust," Victor replied, each word landing like an executioner's blade. "Your 1974 charter covered the domestic dirt, Arthur. But the seventy million dollars in underlying pharmaceutical patents that financed that hospital wing were transferred under my Geneva entity at midnight."

A cold, suffocating dread spread through the room, chilling me deeper than the hospital air conditioning.

"Check your international patent registry in ten minutes, Nora," Victor added smoothly, his voice laced with venomous triumph. "My private Gulfstream just touched down at Dallas Love Field. And when I step off that tarmac... I won't be asking for Judith's house. I’ll be taking the legal ownership of every drop of medicine keeping your daughter alive."

The line clicked dead with a sharp, hollow mechanical snap.

Outside the heavy hospital window, through the gray morning mist rising over the city, the low, distant rumble of a twin-engine jet cut through the Dallas sky, descending rapidly toward the runway two miles away.
