My Mother-In-Law Dosed My Newborn At Her Baby Shower—Until Her Missing Ex-Husband Seized Her $50M Trust At Midnight!
Chapter 2 - The Bail Bondsman's Warrant
A tall man in a navy three-piece suit stormed through the perimeter doors, flanked by two armed private security guards wearing tactical blazers.
It was Julian Vance—Judith’s first cousin and the managing director of Vance Capital Partners.
He carried a crimson-backed legal folio, his gold watch glinting under the harsh fluorescent fixtures.
"Step away from that paperwork, Arthur," Julian commanded, his baritone slicing through the quiet hum of the ventilators.
The two Dallas police officers holding Ryan immediately straightened, their hands drifting toward their service belts.
"Counselor Vance," one of the officers warned. "This is a restricted pediatric ward."
Julian ignored the patrolmen completely, marching straight to the threshold of Room 14 and glaring down at Arthur Caldwell.
"Arthur, you senile ghost," Julian sneered, tapping the crimson folio against the doorframe. "You have no legal standing in Dallas County. The probate court declared you presumed deceased in absentia seven years ago."
Arthur didn't flinch.
He slowly leaned his weight onto his silver cane, raising his eyebrows with chilling indifference.
"A presumption easily rebutted by physical presence, Julian," Arthur said. "As the clerk confirmed forty minutes ago."
"The clerk reviewed a fraudulent petition!" Julian barked, stepping into the room and tossing his document onto the table, right on top of Arthur's 1974 charter. "Judith posted an emergency cash bond of five hundred thousand dollars fifteen minutes ago through our private syndicate. She has already been released from county holding."
My chest seized, cold horror instantly chilling my veins.
"Released?" I whispered, rising from the armchair so fast my postpartum stitches burned. "She poisoned a seven-day-old baby!"
"The magistrate reviewed the initial charges as an accidental domestic overdose, Mrs. Caldwell," Julian said, turning his lethal, condescending gaze on me. "And under Judith's pre-existing conservatorship petition, she has exercised her statutory authority as majority holder of the Caldwell family assets."
He pointed a manicured finger at the yellowed deed beside the bassinet.
"Every commercial account, every brokerage parcel, and this hospital's private endowment pavilion are underwritten by Vance Capital Partners," Julian declared. "We just initiated an emergency seizure of all estate assets. You have twelve hours to vacate the Preston Hollow residence."
Before anyone could speak, Arthur’s encrypted satellite phone in his overcoat emitted a sharp, high-frequency double-tone chime.
