Manager Told A Woman In Worn Sneakers To Leave—Until She Asked What The Whole Showroom Cost!

Chapter 3 - The Private Ledger

Chapter 3 illustration

“Shut up, Marcus,” Gerald whispered, his voice shaking with sudden, violent terror.

Marcus caught his balance on the Arden’s carbon-fiber mirror, his eyes wide in disbelief.

“Sir? What are you doing? It’s just some girl from the valley—”

“I said shut your mouth!” Gerald roared, his face turning an alarming shade of mottled purple.

The entire showroom fell into absolute, suffocating silence.

The elderly couple backed away toward the customer lounge, their eyes darting between the dealership owner and the woman in the gray sweatshirt.

Gerald picked up the matte-black card with both hands, his thumbs visibly trembling.

The compass rose was the private corporate seal of Blake Meridian Global Holdings.

Specifically, the sovereign treasury division that managed private acquisitions across the western seaboard.

“Miss Blake,” Gerald stammered, his posture bowing slightly as he dropped his head. “I... I had no idea you were visiting our Scottsdale location today.”

Marcus stared at his employer, his mouth parting like a landed fish.

“Blake?” Marcus muttered, his gaze snapping back to Ariana’s faded sweatshirt. “Blake... as in Blake Meridian?”

“You told me ninety seconds ago that someone like me could never afford this car,” Ariana said, her voice dropping into that quiet, terrifying register that boardroom directors feared nationwide.

Marcus swallowed hard, his throat clicking in the silence.

“I... I was simply adhering to our brand security protocol, ma’am,” Marcus stammered, his voice rising an octave. “We have high-value assets on the floor. People frequently enter without qualified financing—”

“Daniel,” Ariana said, turning her back on Marcus entirely.

The younger salesman blinked, startled. “Yes, ma'am?”

“Does this dealership hold an unencumbered commercial deed, or are they operating under a subordinated municipal lease?”

Daniel glanced nervously at Gerald before answering.

“It’s a commercial land lease, Miss Blake,” Daniel said, his voice finding unexpected steadiness. “The property is owned by Meridian Real Estate Partners. Crestmont Motors leases the parcel on a twenty-year revolving note.”

Ariana nodded once.

Meridian Real Estate Partners was a wholly-owned subsidiary of her family’s private trust.

She pulled out an encrypted smartphone with a cracked screen protector, swiping past two corporate notifications to tap her chief financial officer's direct line.

The phone rang twice before a deep, authoritative voice answered over the speakerphone.

“Ariana? We’re waiting for you at the airport hangar.”

“Nathan,” Ariana spoke clearly into the microphone. “Pull up the commercial lease schedule for Crestmont Luxury Motors on Scottsdale Road.”

“One moment,” Nathan’s voice crackled across the speaker.

The sound of high-speed keyboard strokes echoed through the quiet showroom.

Gerald looked as though he were having a mild coronary event, his hand clutching his chest as he stepped toward the desk.

“Miss Blake, please,” Gerald pleaded, his aristocratic pride evaporating into thin air. “We’ve maintained an unblemished tenant record for seven years. Whatever offense Marcus has caused, I will handle it internally this morning.”

Nathan’s voice returned through the phone, sharp and clinical.

“Got it. Crestmont Motors. Twenty-year commercial triple-net lease. They defaulted on their quarterly property tax reserve escrow forty-eight hours ago. We have the legal right to accelerate the master deed immediately.”
